Brushing with Braces Described by Langley Orthodontics Specialist

Langley, BC – Patients with braces are investing a lot of time and money and should make sure their dental care habits help that investment pay off. Dr. Aly Kanani reminds his patients of this daily in his Langley orthodontics center. "Teeth with braces need particular care," he warns Dr. Aly Kanani. “Patients must be careful about what they eat and how they clean their teeth. If they fail to clean thoroughly, it can lead to cavities and gum disease. Teeth that are wearing braces are just more vulnerable."

Brushing

Patients can find "orthodontic-cut" or "v-cut" toothbrushes with soft bristles shaped to fit around braces. You also need to use a fluoride toothpaste; a fluoride rinse after brushing is also a good idea. "We recommend that you brush after each meal or snack," says Kanani, a Langley invisalign provider.

On every tooth, brush down from the top and then up from the bottom – keeping the brush at a 45 degree angle. But, brush gently; vigorous brushing can bend or break your braces. And, rinse and spit several times. Kanani, a Langley orthodontist, tells his patients to get a new brush every three months, since braces can cause brushes to wear out more rapidly.

"After brushing with a regular brush, patients should employ a proxabrush," observes Kanani, a Langley Invisalign expert. "Also called a ‘Christmas tree brush,’ it's tapered so it can clean between braces and under wires." Insert the brush between the two braces, first downward from the top and then upward from the bottom. Repeat the process with the next spot between braces; don't stop until each tooth has been brushed.

Flossing
It’s tricky to floss with braces. First, thread the end of the floss into the place between the archwire and the tooth's upper portion, nearest the gum. Slide the floss back and forth to gently clean each tooth’s sides. But, be careful not to exert too much pressure or you could hurt the archwire – and try not to snag the floss on your braces. "Many patients find that waxed floss and a floss threader make flossing easier," says Kanani, a Langley invisible braces expert.

Eating
Some foods aren't a problem if you slice them into small pieces that can be chewed more easily. But, you do want to avoid extremely hard, chewy, or sticky foods that could stick to or damage your braces. Such foods include:
• Foods that are difficult to bite and chew such as corn on the cob, ice, apples, and bagels
• Chewy foods, including taffy, caramels, and gum
• Hard foods such as nuts, carrots, and popcorn

Invisalign Teen System Provided by Langley Orthodontist

Langley BC – Langley invisible braces specialist Dr Aly Kanani offers Invisalign Teen for his practice’s teen patients. The Invisalign invisible braces system employs a series of 18-30 individual, custom-made aligners to gently reposition teeth. Invisalign is clear and less noticeable than conventional braces with their brackets and wires. Unlike with metal braces, the aligners can be taken out for eating, drinking, and brushing teeth – and they are more comfortable.

“Teens are notoriously self-conscious about how they look,” observes Dr. Kanani, a Langley braces expert. “A set of prominent metal braces can pile onto these self-esteem problems. Some teens don’t even smile because they don’t want to show their braces! Since Invisalign Teen is almost invisible, patients are far less self-conscious.” Invisalign is versatile, allowing orthodontists to correct many issues, such as: crowding, widely space teeth, and even underbites, overbites, and crossbites, depending on the situation.

Patients can remove their aligners to brush and floss. Conventional metal braces, with bands and wires, catch food. This is not just a potential embarrassment to teen patients, but it can also make it more difficult to brush effectively, encouraging cavities.

Patients can remove the aligners for 2 to 4 hours a day without impairing treatment. Many teens take the devices out for sports events, playing brass or woodwind instruments, or special occasions. “Our teen patients are grateful for the flexibility to remove the aligners every once and a while,” says Dr. Kanani, a Langley Invisalign provider.

Invisalign Teen also employs a unique system to check if teen patients are wearing their aligners for enough of time. “Invisalign patients need to wear their aligners 20 to 22 hours daily,” explains Dr. Kanani, a Langley BC orthodontics specialist. “The Invisalign Teen system includes an exclusive Blue Dot Wear Indicator that grows clear over a two week period. This tells us if a teen is wearing the aligners often enough. If he or she doesn’t remember to replace the aligner back in, it will compromise the overall treatment. However, Invisalign Teen lets us know.” Furthermore, the Invisalign aligners can be replaced if a teen patient loses one – or more. The system includes as many as six replacement aligners at no additional cost.

Invisalign Teen is good for most children 12 and older. Children under 12 frequently do not have all their adult teeth, so system may not be as effective. But, younger children can be treated with other kinds of orthodontic systems. "However, we have employed Invisalign Teen successfully with teens whom other specialists had said weren’t good candidates," notes Dr. Kanani, a Langley orthodontist, "With my broad experience as an Invisalign specialist, I know precisely what Invisalign can accomplish. I have corrected some significant misalignments that other orthodontists believed would need conventional braces."

Vancouver Orthodontics Specialist Explains Differences between Invisalign and Traditional Braces

Vancouver BC – “When I recommend Invisalign, patients often inquire how it’s different from traditional braces,” observes Dr. Aly Kanani, a Vancouver orthodontics specialist. “I explain that the Invisalign system is simply another method for moving teeth into the correct position, but they’re shifted by clear plastic aligners instead of metal braces.” Sometimes traditional braces may be a better option than Invisalign, but in plenty of situations Invisalign is the superior choice. Your orthodontist can recommend the best selection for you.

“However, many patients, and some providers, think that the Invisalign system is best for fixing only minor dental problems, while conventional braces are the better option for more complex situations,” explains Dr. Kanani, a Vancouver braces expert. But, an experienced Invisalign specialist can fix severe crowding, spacing, or rotation problems – as well as class 2 and 3 malocclusions, open bites, situations requiring extraction, and even use it in conjunction with jaw surgery.

Surrey Invisible Braces Providers Explains How Children Benefit from Braces

Langley, BC – Braces are a common part of childhood, but many parents aren’t familiar with all of their benefits. “A properly aligned bite can grant a child myriad tangible and intangible benefits,” says Dr. Aly Kanani, a Surrey Invisible braces provider.

Straight teeth are often perceived as just a question of appearance. But, crooked teeth are difficult to clean – and can cause decay, gum disease, and loss of teeth. Poor bites also lead to abnormal wear on teeth, troubles with chewing, and too much stress on the jaw bone and gums.

“If you can correct a problem with your bite during childhood, you will grow into adulthood with a healthy smile,” says Dr. Kanani, a Langley invisible braces provider. “Children’s braces prevent a many different problems in adulthood.”

In addition, a nice smile has been found to increase self esteem. “If you are confident about your smile, you will smile more often,” explains Dr. Kanani, a Langley Invisalign specialist. “When you smile more, the people around you respond more positively.”

In our culture, individuals are often evaluated based on their appearance. People with an attractive smile usually enjoy more personal and professional opportunities. Plus, a winning smile boosts self-confidence – an important component in future success.

Vancouver Orthodontist Discusses the Need for an Invisalign-Trained Provider

Vancouver BC - “Invisalign invisible braces have been used by more than 1 million patients and they enjoy a 96% client satisfaction rate,” reveals Vancouver orthodontist Dr. Aly Kanani. Invisalign aligners are custom made using exact calculations for each individual patient. Each patient has a series of aligners that will be switched by the orthodontist every two weeks. Over time, your teeth will move to reveal the smile you've been looking for.

It’s important, however, that these aligners be fitted for you by a trained and experienced Invisalign provider. First of all, you want someone you have a good rapport with, who can understand your needs and give you the outcome you’re seeking. But you also want to look for an Invisalign Preferred Provider, points out Kanani, a Vancouver orthodontics provider. Preferred Providers have achieved a level of clinical training, continuing education, and experience in treating patients with the Invisalign system.

Align Technology, Inc., makers of Invisalign, requires its providers to meet Invisalign continuing education requirements every year. As with any innovative technique, regular work with the Invisalign system and ongoing education are essential factors in developing proficiency.
Selecting an Invisalign Preferred Provider ensures that your orthodontist has met the annual requirements and has made a commitment to maintaining the understanding of Invisalign that creates beautiful smiles.

Some orthodontists have distinguished themselves with an even higher level of Invisalign experience and are recognized as Premier Providers or even Premier Providers Elite. Vancouver Invisalign provider Dr. Kanani is a 2010 Premier Provider Elite, meaning that the level of his Invisalign experience is in the top 1% of doctors in North America.

The list below details the steps in acquiring Invisalign invisible braces. “These steps demonstrate how important it is to work with an experienced Invisalign provider,” says Kanani, a Vancouver BC provider of invisible braces.

1. Your orthodontist will ascertain if you are a suitable candidate for Invisalign treatment. Then he or she will develop an individualized treatment plan and will take impressions and pictures of your teeth.
2. The impressions will be digitized so the orthodontist will be able to show you how the aligners will move your teeth over time. He or she will be able to show you before and after images so you can see what your final smile will look like.
3. A custom set of 20-30 aligners will be created for use during your course of treatment.
4. You will need to wear your aligners all the time, except when brushing your teeth, eating or drinking. You will need to visit your orthodontist regularly to switch out the aligners. New aligners may cause some discomfort, but it is minimal and brief.
5. At each visit, you will be able to see your new smile moving into place. Soon you will have the results you’re looking for!

Surrey Orthodontist Discusses Losing Baby Teeth and Early Orthodontics

Surrey, BC -- When your child loses his or her first tooth it’s a big rite of passage. But in addition to leaving money, the Tooth Fairy should also remind parents that it’s a good time to emphasize the importance of good dental care.
“Those new teeth must last for the rest of your child’s life,” says Surrey orthodontist Dr. Aly Kanani.

You may not know this, but baby teeth fall out in the order in which they first grew in. The front two bottom teeth- the lower central incisors- are the first to go, followed by the front two upper teeth. Most children start losing teeth by 6 or 7, and girls are usually earlier than boys. All baby teeth are usually gone by age 13. Most children experience no pain with losing baby teeth. But if erupting molars give them discomfort, you can give them acetaminophen or a topical pain killer.

“When your child has a loose tooth, tell them they can wiggle it carefully. But they shouldn’t try to pull it out before it’s ready,” says Kanani, a Surrey invisible braces provider. “If you remove a tooth prematurely, the broken root could become infected.”

The new adult teeth are quite a bit larger than the baby teeth. They may have clearly defined ridges and can be less white. But these features will change when you child starts using them for chewing and biting. The Canadian Association of Orthodontists advises that seven-year-olds who have started losing baby teeth should receive an evaluation with an orthodontist, notes Kanani, a Surrey orthodontics and Invisalign provider. The orthodontist can evaluate whether the child’s jaw has enough room for all the adult teeth. If not, appropriate measures can be taken.

“Many orthodontic problems can be fixed without a lot of fuss if they are noticed early -- before a child’s jaw has stopped growing,” says the Surrey invisalign provider.

Addressing these issues while children are young might shorten their time in braces and obviate the need for later surgery. At these initial visits orthodontists can also address issues such as thumb sucking, mouth breathing, and tongue thrusting – which can cause orthodontic problems in the future.

Surrey braces provider, Dr. Kanani, also notes that the time around when a child loses a first tooth is a good time to prepare for a lifetime of good dental health. Be sure to:

• Visit your dentist at least twice a year.
• Ask about fluoride treatments and sealants which can prevent tooth decay.
• Tell your children not to consume sugary drinks or eat between meals.
• Encourage them to brush in the morning, after meals and before bed.
• Get your child a new toothbrush every few months.

Langley Orthodontics Office Hosts Local Langley Brownie Troop

LANGLEY, BC - In keeping with Canada Dental Health Month, Langley orthodontist office Langley Orthodontics is hosting a local Brownie troop and educating the girls about proper oral hygiene. Langley Orthodontics is certified specialist in orthodontics office providing children and adult braces, and Invisalign in Langley, BC.

Approximately 15 Brownies, ages 7 to 8, attended an evening program on Monday April 26th at Langley Orthodontics state of the art orthodontic braces and Invisible braces office in Langley, BC. The staff at Langley Orthodontics gave interactive presentations about proper brushing and flossing techniques, what cavities are, and how to avoid cavities. They also discussed what types of foods are good for your teeth and which sugary, sticky food to avoid.

“Around this age is when children are beginning to take charge of their oral care,” says Dr. Aly Kanani, an orthodontist with Surrey Orthodontics and Langley Invisalign. “So, it’s a critical time to teach them the basics of how to care for their teeth – which goes beyond brushing. A balanced diet is just as important for your teeth as it is for the rest of your body.”

The evening wasn’t only educational. There were fun activities for the brownie troop, including storytelling and watching animated presentations, all at Langley Orthodontics in the heart of Langley, BC. And each Brownie had a smiling photograph of them taken to take home and also had a mould of their thumb taken. It was cast in stone and each Brownie will soon be able to take their mould home to show their family and friends as a keepsake.

“My dedicated staff and I feel truly privileged to play this important role in the Langley, BC community. We enjoy very much interacting with the local children and community groups. It’s a great feeling to give back to our community and we look forward to continue to do so with other groups”, exclaimed the Langleybraces provider.

Langley Orthodontics Expert in Langley Can Correct Malocclusions

LANGLEY, BC - Malocclusion may sound like a fancy medical term, but it’s actually Latin for “bad bite” and is used to describe teeth that do not fit together properly. So, it’s the kind of thing the Langley, BC orthodontists at Langley Orthodontics help their patients with every day. Langley Orthodontics is also a Premier Provider Elite of the Invisalign system of invisible braces.

A bad bite might sound like something that only affects your appearance, but it can actually have an impact on a patient’s quality of life in many different ways. Malocclusions are many times inherited. The size of teeth and jaw is the biggest determinant for how well teeth fit together, but often teeth have too much or too little room in the jaw. However, malocclusions can also be acquired by thumb-sucking, tongue thrusting, dental decay, premature loss of primary or permanent teeth, accidents or some medical problems.

Types of Malocclusions:
  • Class I Malocclusion: Teeth are crowded together or spaced apart – or they create an overbite or a crossbite.
  • Class II Malocclusion: The upper front teeth protrude or the lower teeth and jaw are too far back relative to the upper teeth.
  • Class III Malocclusion: The lower front teeth protrude or the lower teeth and jaw are too far ahead relative to the upper teeth.
Malocclusions are not just an aesthetic issue. Crooked and crowded teeth are hard to clean properly, potentially leading to tooth decay, gum disease, and tooth loss. A bad bite can also cause abnormal wear of tooth surfaces, difficulty with chewing, and excessive stress on the jaw bone and gum tissue. Poor tooth alignment can also affect a person’s speech.

Treating Malocclusions
Few people have perfectly aligned teeth, but not every problem needs to be fixed. Children usually do not grow out of a malocclusion problem. Occasionally, it may be necessary to extract teeth to correct a malocclusion. More severe malocclusions in adults may need to be fixed with orthognathic surgery to change the shape of the jaw. But most bite problems can be corrected with fixed braces or removable appliances such as Langley, BC Invisalign clear aligners.

“Between the use of removable appliances, metal braces, clear braces, corrective jaw surgery, and Invisalign invisible braces, we have treated all types of malocclusions. We have treated everything from mild cases to very bad bite problems,” says Dr. Aly Kanani Vancouver invisalign orthodontist at the Langley office of Langley Orthodontics. “ Adults and teens who have all of their adult molars respond well to Invisalign depending on their situation. Children usually need traditional braces. Some adult patients opt for Langley, BC Invisible braces.”

Invisalign is a clear system of straightening teeth without wires or brackets. Many patients prefer Invisalign invisible braces since they feel self-conscious about a mouthful of traditional braces. The Invisalign aligners are removable, so there are no restrictions on what a patient can eat. And the aligners are typically more comfortable than traditional braces.
“Our patients are always surprised how easy the process is at our offices,” says Kanani, a Langley, BC braces orthodontist.. “We get them a dazzling smile more quickly – and with less pain and trouble – than they expect.”

Langley Orthodontics Specialist Discusses Benefits of Twin Block Therapy for Jaw Correction

LANGLEY, BC — Most of today’s dental treatments are iterations of older dental techniques that have evolved over the course of years, decades, and even centuries. However, one treatment invented in the late 1970s by William Clark, a Scottish orthodontist, has survived the test of time and provides patients with amazing results with minimal discomfort.

Twin Block treatment allows orthodontists to manipulate the lower jaw to correct both a retracted jaw that results in overbites and small lower jaws. According to Langley orthodontics expert Dr. Aly Kanani, DMD, when Twin Block orthodontics are implemented at the correct age, patients can achieve optimal jaw alignment which allows an anatomically correct bite and even a more pleasing smile and facial profile.

“It may sound harsh to have blocks placed in the mouth, but it is actually a great treatment that sidesteps jaw surgery down the road in many instances,” says Dr. Kanani. “Treatment is best suited for children and can take as little as a year to provide a lifetime of benefits.”

Symptoms
There are generally two conditions that can be corrected by Twin Block treatment. These symptoms include a “retruded” jaw that is does not align with the upper jaw and also a “small” lower jaw that is narrower than the upper jaw.

The conditions can be caused by several factors, including genetics, excessive thumb sucking during infancy, posture, and other variables as well.

“It is really important for parents to bring their children to the orthodontist for checkups to evaluate the dental development and the growth and development of their jaws, to ensure that problems such as these are eradicated early on,” says Dr. Kanani, a Vancouver orthodontics provider. “Without early intervention, the patient will probably need more intensive treatment later on in life.”

Without Twin Block treatment during early development, children expressing these symptoms can grow to need intensive orthodontic treatment and even jaw surgery adds Dr. Kanani.

Treatment
Twin Block treatment is highly customizable to suit the unique bite of every patient. Modifications to the Twin Block appliances can be made at any time to adjust the position of the lower jaw or the width of the upper and lower jaw.

To be fitted for Twin Block appliances, the patient will have a model of his or her teeth made during an appointment with the orthodontist. Then, the wax model is sent to a dental lab for fabrication.

“The Twin Block appliances fit comfortably in a patient’s teeth, and don’t hinder their lifestyles whatsoever,” says Dr. Kanani, a Langley Invisalign provider. “Between all of my braces, Invisalign, and Twin Block patients, I know a whole lot about oral appliances, and I see only minor changes to my patients’ eating or speech habits while using Twin Block treatment, and even this disappears after one week or so.”

According to the Aurum Group, a dental manufacturing lab, the blocks themselves work together to accomplish a 70° angle that positions the upper and lower jaw in ideal position. The oral appliances can be worn all day long, and are easily adjustable by an orthodontist should the need for tweaks be necessary during the course of treatment notes Dr. Kanani.

“Treatment time can take anywhere up to one year,” says the Surrey invisible braces provider. “But, because the treatment doesn’t hurt or hinder children from their regular lifestyle, there is little to dislike.”

Prevention
Twin Block orthodontics is a non-invasive treatment that allows the jaw to actively adjust and position itself in the proper position before the jaw locks into an undesired position. This treatment is highly preferable to treatment alternatives such as headgear appliances, possibly future extractions of teeth, and even corrective jaw surgery.

“When compared to surgery, using a painless device such as Twin Blocks to actively adjust the teeth and jaw positions is a great alternative,” says the Langley braces provider.

Surrey, Vancouver and Langley Orthodontist Dr. Aly Kanani Achieves Invisalign Premier Provider Elite Status

VANCOUVER, BC — As of January 2010, Vancouver orthodontist Dr. Aly Kanani will be recognized as an Invisalign Premier Provider Elite. As a Premier Provider Elite, Dr. Kanani has pinnacled as an Invisalign caregiver in the top 1% of treatment experience in North America.

Dr. Kanani has been treating his orthodontic patients using Invisalign orthodontics for several years now. Since then Dr. Kanani has helped hundreds of patients, from teenagers to adults, benefit from more confident and more beautiful smiles.

“At our practices we take great pride and pleasure in correcting crooked teeth and other malformations,” said Langley orthodontist Dr. Kanani. “Invisalign is a great treatment method that has revolutionized orthodontics. To be considered an elite care provider in Invisalign orthodontics is a great honor that I won’t soon forget or take for granted.”

Invisalign treatment corrects teeth misalignments utilizing clear aligner trays that fasten directly over the patient’s teeth. The trays are virtually invisible and can be worn at any time except during meals comments Dr. Kanani. Gradually, the Invisalign trays shift and move teeth into a balanced, well formed smile.

Invisalign’s proprietary dentist ranking system divides orthodontists and dental practitioners providing Invisalign treatment into three categories: Preferred Providers, Premier Providers, and Premier Provider Elites. Preferred Providers have adequate case experience to treat some patients, while Premier Providers have achieved more case experience. At the top of the list are the Premier Provider Elite practitioners, who provide the highest levels of case experience, making them the most sought out Invisalign orthodontists in British Columbia and in North America due to their extensive experience and ability to use the Invisalign technique properly and effectively.

In addition to Dr. Kanani, there are only two other Premier Provider Elite practitioners in British Columbia notes Dr. Kanani. He provides Invisalign treatment and other orthodontic services from Guildford Orthodontics and Invisalign in Surrey, BC, Langley Orthodontics and Invisalign in Langley, BC, and Vancouver Orthodontics and Invisalign at the Vancouver Multi-Dental Care Clinic, in Vancouver, BC.

Correcting teeth misalignments and having properly aligned teeth can improve the condition of teeth by avoiding premature erosion and promotes the health of joints and muscles in the jaw and face adds Dr. Kanani.

“For years I have been helping patients achieve more beautiful smiles with minimal discomfort during treatment,” said the Surrey Invisalign and braces practitioner. “Watching patients become more confident and pleased with their smile is a rewarding experience that keeps the job fun and new. There have been several lifelong friendships made and I’m overjoyed to have played such an important part in so many people’s lives”

Vancouver Braces Expert Suggests Dental Hygiene as Ideal new Year's Resolution

VANCOUVER, BC — The big ball drops. A new year begins. For millions of people, this moment is a time of reflection and optimism for better days. This hopefulness more often than not embodies itself as the New Year's Resolution. But, as we all know New Year's Resolutions are often hard to keep. People often make commitments beyond their capabilities or ambition, and the New Year’s Resolution becomes a source of failure rather than renewed confidence.

Dr. Aly Kanani, a Vancouver braces expert likes to remind his patients and friends that one of the easiest and most beneficial New Year’s Resolutions is right under their noses, literally.

By making just a couple of easy changes to your daily routine and giving yourself just a few friendly reminders each day, dental hygiene will not only provide major health benefits, it will be a positive step towards a better you and an admirable New Year’s Resolution achieved.

Hygiene At Home
Some simple commitments at home can pay big dividends in oral health. According to the Canadian Dental Association (CDA), making sure to brush after meals and at least two times a day plays a big part in removing food and bacteria from the teeth and gum line. If plaque is left unaccounted for, it can turn into a hardened substance (tartar), and cavities can form, which leads to tooth decay and even tooth loss.

Flossing regularly is just as important to oral hygiene as brushing your teeth. Often, food gets trapped where a broad toothbrush can’t reach. Combined, flossing and brushing greatly increases the overall cleanliness of teeth and gums.

“For some reason most people think that brushing is enough to keep cavities away,” says Dr. Kanani. “But, to promote a healthy mouth, people need to invest in brushing, flossing, and rinsing. I guarantee that if you do all these things, you will feel a difference in the way your teeth feel.”

Mouthwash and rinses can vary drastically in their effectiveness. With antimicrobial rinses and cosmetic rinses producing different effects on the mouth, individuals should consult with their dentist about the right choice and frequency of use notes Dr. Kanani.

Another helpful at-home hygiene tip is to examine your mouth on a routine basis. Recognizing any new problems can prevent bigger problems before they erupt.

Work/School Hygiene
We spend at least one-third of our daily lives at school or at work. This is a significant amount of time, so it is important to dedicate some of your time away from home maintaining good dental habits.

After lunch, a quick floss and/or brushing can go a long way. “Cleaning your teeth at work or school is incredibily important, but many people leave dental hygiene to the comfort of their own bathrooms,” says Surrey orthodontist Dr. Kanani. “Unfortunately, without cleaning after those cafeteria lunches or company lunches, food and plaque will be festering in your mouth all day long."

People undergoing orthodontic treatment should especially focus on brushing and/or flossing after every meal adds Dr. Kanani, a Vancouver, BC orthodontics practitioner. Using either a toothbrush or special orthodontic flosser, those with braces or Invisalign should maintain their orthodontic equipment diligently.

“One of the worst things an adult or child can do is neglect their orthodontics,” says Dr. Kanani, a Vancouver Invisalign specialist. “Foreign objects in the mouth like braces and Invisalign trays can become a hotbed for bacteria. Orthodontics are meant to enhance a patient’s smile, but without good habits the patient will most likely have other dental problems besides teeth misalignments.”

Those with braces should practice brushing above, below, and around their braces and wires as much as possible, especially after meals. Rinses also help loosen any food particles adds Dr. Kanani, a Langley braces specialist. Invisalign patients should clean their Invisalign trays by brushing them before putting them on and soaking them in a special cleaner or mouthwash frequently.

Keep Dental Appointments
Perhaps the hardest habit to keep is routinely visiting the dentist. Though many people don’t like visiting the dentist, it is highly important to prevent any serious dental problems before they arise.

“Many people think that if they have great dental habits that they don’t need to visit their dentist,” says Langley orthodontics practitioner Dr. Kanani, who was a general dentist before becoming a Certified Specialist in Vancouver, BC orthodontics. “Unfortunately, our teeth and gums can degrade with time. Through the bloodstream, teeth and gums can become infected regardless of brushing and flossing habits. But, dental checkups don’t take much time, are generally painless, and can prevent serious complications.”

Common knowledge suggests that people should have a dental appointment every six months, however, this number can vary depending on several factors adds Dr. Kanani. Depending on oral health, genetics, and habits, a dentist may suggest appointments anywhere from six times per year to two per year.
